The Iraqi Journal of Physics, which was established in 2002, is an open-access scientific journal that focuses on publishing genuine papers in the physical sciences in both applied and theoretical fields. Due to its wide scope, the Iraqi Journal of Physics may also accept papers in other fields of relevance, such as chemistry, astronomy, remote sensing, and some specific science and engineering applications that are related to physics.

Being the first specialized journal in physical science in the Republic of Iraq, the Iraqi Journal of Physics holds a significant place among all other scientific journals published in this field of science. The significance of physics and science development in the academic society of Iraq revealed the journal's primary function. Such development began decades ago, and it marked the Iraqi scientific society as being the most distinguished of the notable and extended efforts of its members. The Iraqi Journal of Physics is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC-BY) license. In 2017, the journal began publishing four issues instead of the previous three-issue publication. The journal is using iThenticate to prevent plagiarism and ensure the originality of our submitted manuscripts. A double-blind peer-reviewing scheme is used to assure the quality of the publication.

We want to point out that the Iraqi Journal of Physics's volume issuance was suspended between 2003 and 2008 and republished in 2009.
